Tradition and passion
In 1975, engineer Manfred von der Mühlen founded “PSG – Petro Service GmbH” – so today, we can proudly look back on more than four decades of eventful and exciting company history. At our 2021 updated location in Steinbach near Frankfurt, more than 40 dedicated colleagues ensure every day that the history that once began continues successfully.
The beginnings in instrumentation
In the early years, the company, which was founded in the German state of Hesse, was specialized in the standardization and manufacture of instrument air distributors and manifolds as well as the trading of the entire range of materials required for instrumentation. While the air distributors in large industrial plants were sometimes even welded by the plant fire department during rest periods, Mr. von der Mühlen revolutionized this product category with his standardization and special innovations. By adapting a so-called “flow” process, it was possible to mass-produce air distributors without complex welding seams and with a higher degree of automation. After the first successes with this product, the expansion of the company continued.
Competence and know-how in Gas Sampling Probes and Heated Sample Lines
As a niche within instrumentation, another area of PSG competence developed over time, which today contributes more than ever to the successful development of the company:
The Process Analysis Technology.
While initially concentrating on the production of Gas Sampling Probes in a deep cooperation with a partner, the next product category within the extractive gas analysis was identified: The transport of the gas sample via Heated Sample Lines. Today we profit from more than 2500 different versions and are still capable to produce customer specific solutions.
From the small Analysis Sample Plate to the turnkey Analysis Container
With a keen sense of customer requirements for turnkey analytical solutions, the next major area was born: In addition to developing and manufacturing sample preparation components, the company developed into the supply of complete analyzer systems and gained the expertise to deliver complete measurement tasks to customers in the chemical and petrochemical industries. Key for this success was the smooth interaction between Sample Preparation and Analyzers Technology. Even challenging projects such as the operation of measurements in explosive atmospheres (ATEX) were successfully implemented.
The next generation PSG from 2012
After a successful time as managing partner, Mr. von der Mühlen made the decision in 2012 to handover PSG Petro Service GmbH & Co. KG to the next generation. At that time, the Burghausen site, which is specialized in the development and engineering of automation systems, had already been transferred to a new shareholder structure by a management buy-out. Till today we share a cooperation and namesake of PSG GmbH in Burghausen. With a team of 14 employees, Jörg Erens started the reorientation of PSG as the new managing director and shareholder. In addition to the intensification of product development and the expansion of marketing and sales activities, the focus was particularly on internationalization.
Acquisition of AGT Thermotechnik GmbH & Co. KG in 2016
In addition to the already well-established Gas Sampling Probes and Heated Sample Lines, the company was missing an essential part to complete its product portfolio: the conditioning (drying) of gas samples via Sample Gas Cooler. To this end, the company succeeded in 2016 in taking over and integrating AGT Thermotechnik, which was specialized in the manufacture of Sample Gas Coolers and Compressed Air Dryers since 1963 in Erkelenz (and was previously also known as Alfa-Laval). So finally, AGT-PSG was able to offer all components for gas conditioning with unique vertical integration from a single source.
PSG. PerfectSampleGas today!
The year 2021 was a very special one in the history of the company operating today under the brand name PSG.
PerfectSampleGas: First the transfer from PSG into the new headquarter and after this the merge of the development and production for Sample gas coolers and compressed air dryers in the middle of the year. With currently more than 40 employees and a worldwide sales network via locations in Singapore, Dubai and Brazil, the company is targeted to take a leading role in Gas Sampling Solutions. A further milestone in the company’s development was the appointment of Thorsten Reisinger (formerly sales manager for Siemens analytical technology in Germany), an expert in the field of Systems Integration, as managing director alongside Jörg Erens.
